The Realm of Kankulēsis

Kankulēsis is situated in the south-east of Norlandía. The terrain in this realm varies from mountain ranges to deserts to swamps, and just like the landscape the cities of Kankulēsis are very different. The people of Argánthal are guarded and furtive, praying to the gods secretly and without need for places of worship. Thanatüs, by comparison has huge ziggurat-shaped temples which dominate the skyline and indeed the city itself is controlled by the high priests.

The City of Thanatüs

The City of Thanatüs is dominated by huge ziggurat-shaped temples while the religious orders who occupy them enjoy an almost cult-like status. In general, Kankulēsis gives more power to its high priests than most other realms but Thanatüs goes even further elevating them to the level of veneration reserved for high lords or members of the royal household.

Each temple has a section at its peak which is used by the high priests to pray. Many use it to commune with their gods, believing that doing so at the very top of the temple brings them closer to their deity, while others use it to offer up live sacrifices or spy on the other temples.

Many of the high priests of Thanatüs have gained popularity over the years and some have built up large followings. One in particular, High Priest Chromasté of the Temple of Tythrin, preaches every other day outside his temple and attracts people from all corners of the city. Hundreds of people flock to his sermons eager to hear his fire and brimstone rhetoric.
