The Realm of Pholôs

Pholôs is the realm which is at the centre of Norlandía. The realm’s two main cities, Stormhaven and Tarantum, are each built within two-mile-wide craters, which are six miles apart. It is said that the craters were made by the impact of something which fell from the heavens. The object split at the last minute; the lawful and honourable piece causing the crater where Stormhaven was founded and the immoral and malevolent piece falling where Tarantum now stands. This explanation goes a long way to explain the differing aspects of the two cities..

The Town of Pinedale

The Town of Pinedale stood nestled in the foothills on the eastern edge of the realm of Pholôs. Peaceful and idyllic the town acted as a hub of trade and commerce between Pholôs and the nearby realm of Caulderon. This changed when the town was stricken by a strange plague of unknown origin causing Queen Burgrün Kürskle to deploy her army, supported by pyromancers, to cleanse the town.

Stormhaven and its sister-city Tarantum are separated by only five and a half miles, but poles apart in almost every other way. Both cities had been founded inside two-mile-wide impact craters from an object that had fallen from the heavens thousands of years ago, splitting into two at the last minute.

Travel between the cities involved going by road across the barren terrain of the Pholôs desert and then entering through the main city gates; or by the Rails; two tunnels that were dug between the cities eight hundred years ago to guard against either one being besieged. Excavated into the bedrock at a five-degree angle from each city, the Rails were a feat of engineering renowned throughout the Northern Realms.
